Here's a tip from Mike Matthews of buildacustommotorcycle.com
When you're removing a derby cover for any servicing, especially the older three screw covers or the aftermarket products, it's a good idea to pay attention to its mounting position.
Rotation of the cover when you reinstall it could create an oil leak.
Why? Because the cover, through the action of heating and cooling,
may have warped a bit and if installed in a different position may not
provide proper o-ring compression.
Suggestion: Place a piece of tape on the cover to indicate the location of
the top mounting screw before you remove it.
