Motorcycle Recall - Ducati

NHTSA Campaign ID:  11V336000
Component:  Equipment
Manufacturer:  Ducati North America
Recall Date: 06/16/2011
Potential Number of Units Affected: 964
Defect Summary:
Ducati is recalling certain model year 2011 Diavel motorcycles manufactured from September 23, 2010, through May 12, 2011. The brass inserts installed in the chain guard may deform over time, resulting in the possible loosening of the license plate holder retaining screws on the rear swing-arm. This situation could cause the license plate holder to become loose during normal operation of the motorcycle.
Consequence Summary:
Loosening of the license plate holder could interfere with the motorcycle's rear wheel rotation and thereby increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary:
Ducati dealers will replace the chain guard with an updated version, manufactured with steel inserts. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during July 2011. Owners may contact Ducati at 1-800-231-6696.
